Ways in which you can support The BFSA
The BFSA is a UK Registered Charity (No. 1003272) and is financed by the subscriptions of its members and by donations from generous supporters.
You can support The BFSA by becoming a member and taking out an annual subscription: http://www.thebfsa.org/join.
If you are a UK taxpayer, your subscription can be supplemented by completion of a Gift Aid declaration.
However, there are a variety of other ways in which you can support us.
By making a donation
Donations of any size are very welcome and can be restricted or unrestricted.
An unrestricted gift allows the Trustees to decide how the funds might be most effectively used.
You could also choose to restrict your gift so that it goes to a particular aspect of our work, for example:
Research Grants: We would like to be able to increase our support for research grants (http://www.thebfsa.org/research/grants/). Increasing public knowledge about all aspects of the Arabian Peninsula is at the core of the BFSA’s mission. We therefore need to spend as much as possible on research on Arabia and on publishing the results, in public lectures, reports in the Bulletin, books, articles, and papers at the Seminar for Arabian Studies and other conferences. However, all this costs money and we greatly need your help to make this research possible.
Support for graduate students: We would also like to help promising young academics or graduate students from the Arabian Peninsula to attend the Seminar for Arabian Studies by the award of a grant for travel and stipend.
If you would like to make a donation to support the work of The BFSA, or to talk to someone about our work, please contact Carolyn Perry via firstname.lastname@example.org or 07710 459237.
Become a sponsor
Advertise in our Bulletin: The BFSA Annual Bulletin (http://www.thebfsa.org/publications/bulletin/) is sent to all members and other parties and institutions working in the Peninsula. For more information on opportunities for advertising in, or sponsorship of, the Bulletin please email email@example.com.
Sponsor a BFSA Lecture: You might like to think about sponsoring one of the BFSA lectures. Sponsorship allows us to attract speakers from abroad, or to provide a networking reception alongside the event. To find out more about sponsorship of events please contact Carolyn Perry via firstname.lastname@example.org or 07710 459237.
Remember The BFSA in your Will
Please consider The BFSA when you decide who you would like to benefit from your Will. By leaving a legacy to The BFSA you will make an invaluable contribution to increasing knowledge and understanding of Arabia.
You will ensure that crucial resources are in place to help us to support more long term and sustainable projects in the study of the Arabian Peninsula. Every gift, whatever the amount, can help us.
If you are considering making or changing your Will, please take legal advice. In most cases you can make a simple addition to your existing Will with a codicil. The following suggested clauses may be of help to you and your solicitor:
For a pecuniary gift (a fixed sum of money decided by you): “I give the British Foundation for the Study of Arabia (BFSA) the sum of £___ for its general purposes.”
For a residuary gift (the amount of the whole or portion of your estate after other legacies, Inheritance Tax and expenses have been paid): “I give the British Foundation for the Study of Arabia (BFSA) ___% of the residue of my estate for general purposes.”
For a specific gift (a bequest of specific personal possessions such as property or stocks and shares): “I give the British Foundation for the Study of Arabia (BFSA) my ____ for its general purposes.”
Or, to support a specific part of our work*: “I give the British Foundation for the Study of Arabia (BFSA)… insert wording for a residuary/pecuniary/specific gift as appropriate and I wish this to be used for _____ purposes.”
* if there is a specific part of our work, other than those mentioned above, which you would like to see benefit from your gift please contact us before finalising your Will so that you can be sure that your wishes can be met.
If you have any questions or would like to speak with someone about how you can leave a legacy to support The BFSA, please contact Simon Alderson (tel/fax +44 191 371 0427, mobile 07966 260 086) who will be pleased to help.
